MOHAWK VALLEY EDGE WELCOMES MICRON TO CENTRAL NEW YORK

Semiconductor manufacturing in CNY: Micron’s brand-new facility plans announced

The morning announcement on Tuesday, October 4th solidifying plans for Micron to build a semiconductor facility in Central New York was triumphant for many.

According to this morning’s briefing and other outlets (including The New York Times and The Washington Post), this project will bring about 50,000 jobs in total– from 9,000 jobs at Micron to the potential of around 40,000 other ancillary jobs from suppliers to contractors.

Mohawk Valley EDGE welcomes Micron’s new state-of-the-art semiconductor campus to the Central New York Region.

“Today’s announcement furthers the continued positive economic transformation and forward momentum happening in Upstate New York,” said EDGE President Steven J. DiMeo. “The adoption of the Chips for America Act through Senator Charles Schumer’s leadership and Governor Hochul’s approval of the New York Green Chips Act has positioned New York as an attractive option for an industry that is looking to add fab capacity and building stronger, more resilient global supply chains.”

We congratulate the efforts of Senator Schumer, Governor Hochul, the Empire State Development team, County Executive Ryan McMahon and his economic development team at the Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency, and our economic development partners at Centerstate CEO.
