Controller - Accounting Manager

JOB SUMMARY:
Directs the financial affairs for Mohawk Valley EDGE, EDGE, subsidiaries and other economic development organizations that contract directly with EDGE for staff support.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintains the company's system of accounts and oversees books and records on all company transactions and assets for all boards served by EDGE.
  • Is responsible for accurate and timely cash flow projections, budgets, financial and other reports as required for internal management and monthly presentations to the directors of respective boards.
  • Coordinates activities of employees providing accounting support.
  • Establishes major economic objectives and policies for the company and prepares timely reports that outline the company's financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations.
  • Is responsible for tax planning and compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate, payroll, and other applicable taxes.
  • Evaluates and recommends insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, plus ten years of relevant experience in accounting - finance; or
  • Master’s degree in accounting/finance, MBA; or CPA and five to seven years of relevant experience.

Controller - Accounting Manager

JOB SUMMARY:
Directs the financial affairs for Mohawk Valley EDGE, EDGE, subsidiaries and other economic development organizations that contracts directly with EDGE for staff support. Duties include oversight of financial operations, including preparation of interim financial statements and final financial statements with supporting schedules. Controller is responsible for the company's financial plans and policies, its accounting practices, the conduct of its relationships with lending institutions and the financial community, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports and budgets. The position involves supervision over general accounting, property accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, and budgetary controls.

Primary Responsibilities for EDGE, EDGE Subsidiaries and contract entities:

  • Development, analysis, and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of performance against budget, cash flow position and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.
  • Is responsible for accurate and timely cash flow projections, financial and other reports as required for internal management and monthly presentations to the EDGE Board and other economic development organizations assisted by EDGE..
  • Coordinates activities of employees providing accounting support, ensuring that standard accounting principles are followed in keeping the agency's financial records.
  • Maintains the company's system of accounts and keeps/ oversees books and records on all company transactions and assets.
  • Establishes major economic objectives and policies for the company and prepares timely reports that outline the company's financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations.
  • Coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures, and analyzes and reports variances.
  • Is responsible for tax planning and compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate, payroll, and other applicable taxes.
  • Furnishes timely internal reports, revises and updates reports to be more useful and efficient, and furnishes external reports as necessary.
  • Determines depreciation rates to apply to capitalized items and advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax revisions.
  • Evaluates and recommends insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
  • The Controller has the final responsibility for providing the organization and its management with the appropriate financial and operating information necessary. This individual and the accounting staff are expected to work closely with other department groups on problems involving accounting systems and financial planning.
  • This position will be looked to for technical and analytical guidance in providing support and guidance to other functions as they pertain to the finances of the organization.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Other responsibilities include seeing that company policy is carried out or complied with, assisting other departments in project budgeting, loan analysis, accelerating cash receipts and controlling disbursements, overseeing bank balances, maintaining lines of credit and banking relationships, recommending investment vehicles (and coordinating cash needs with investments), establishing and maintaining credit and collection procedures, and implement a fully coordinated budgeting, accounts receivable and accounts payable system utilizing computerized Fund EZ accounting systems.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, plus ten years of relevant experience in accounting - finance.
  • Master’s degree in accounting/finance, MBA; or CPA and five to seven years of relevant experience.
  • Skill in math, accuracy and precision, interest in business, organized, willingness to follow recommended procedures, honesty, patience, good written and oral communication skills, good people skills, supervisory skills, team player, knowledge of Fund EZ a plus, Microsoft office and ACT.
