Vice President of Marketing and Communications
Mohawk Valley EDGE is a not-for-profit, regional economic development agency providing a full range of economic development services and programs to Oneida and Herkimer Counties. The organization has a staff complement of 14 professionals with an annual operating budget of $2.2 million. EDGE also provides staff support to three subsidiary companies, and through contract for Griffiss Local Development Corporation, Rome Industrial Development Corporation, Oneida County Industrial Development Agency, Utica Industrial Development Corporation and Rome Community Brownfields Restoration Corporation.
EDGE seeks a highly motivated self starter to oversee review and execution of a marketing communications plan for EDGE and its related organizations. Primary responsibilities are maintaining and enhancing the image of the Mohawk Valley and Mohawk Valley EDGE by managing the organization's public relations, advertising and direct marketing programs.
Other responsibilities include:
- Managing the marketing and communications budget.
- Writing and/or coordinating the production of written communications materials, including newsletters, press releases and other promotional collateral material.
- Maintaining and updating content of web site.
- Acting as media spokesman and managing all media relations.
- Making presentations to community groups in private and public settings.
- Interacting with government officials at local, state and federal levels.
- Representing agency at trade shows and meetings with site selection and corporate real estate specialists.
- Meeting with local companies.
- Participating in fund-raising activities.
- Providing staff support to various boards and/or committees.
- Assisting in developing responses to business leads and prospects.
- Participating in staff planning and training sessions.
Applicants should at a minimum have the following combination of education and related work experience: Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, business administration or a related field and five years of relevant work experience; or a Master's degree with three years of relevant work experience. Understanding of the Mohawk Valley region is critical to carrying out role. Applicants should have strong written and oral communications skills and interpersonal skills, be adept at dealing with changing situations and priorities, and have a solid background in using Microsoft Office software programs including Word and Powerpoint as well as ACT!. A personal car is required for local work-related travel. The position includes some evening and weekend meetings. Some out of town and overnight travel is required.
